Desert Estates at Pinnacle Peak (formerly Reata Ranch) was plan for the 220-acre site southeast of Dynamite Boulevard and 128th Street. The developer wanted to develop a modern version of the kind of a dude ranch similar to Rancho Vista Bonita that used to be near Pinnacle Peak and Pima roads. The Reata Ranch concept would blend ritzy and rustic in a no-roughing-it style. The developer describes it as "glamping, " a mash-up of "glamour camping. "
Reata Ranch borders state trust land along 136th Street that the city wants to acquire in December 2011 for the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. It's in the city's Dynamite Foothills Character Area that calls for preserving the rural character with open space, minimal development impact, low building heights and no street lights to compete with starry skies.
The guest ranch would include hiking and equestrian trails linking to the nearby preserve and McDowell Mountain Regional Park.
The property was to be called The Overlook at the Golf Club Scottsdale. Those plans include 117 homesites with a 7,800 sf community center on 2.4 acres. Each lot will have views of Fraesfield Mountain, Granite Mountain, Troon Mountain, Pinnacle Peak, and the McDowell Mountains.
The new owner has not announced their plans for this parcel.
