Shed A Light Foundation

Shed A Light Foundation’s mission is to raise funds to support residential and treatment facilities for the mentally ill. Two of the programs Shed A Light generates funds for are the Scripps Health A-Visions Program and the START Crisis Treatment Home.
The Scripps Health A-Visions program helps people receiving treatment for mental illness with vocational training, which potentially leads to a greater level of independence and fulfillment.
People with psychiatric disorders are often misunderstood, feared, and shunned by society. Finding employment can be difficult for such people who are willing and able to work, even if they are undergoing or have completed treatment.
The START Crisis Treatment Residential Home has a multi-disciplinary staff on-site 24 hours a day. Most patients stay about nine days during which time the staff develops a comprehensive treatment plan based on individual needs and strengths. Patients participate in household duties and attend individual and group counseling sessions.
How Can You Help?
· Write a check or donate online.
· Organize a used clothing collection event. Most patients who are in crisis enter the hospital with little more than what they are wearing and stay for three days to three weeks, sometimes longer.
· Share their mission. Spread the word about Shed A Light to as many people as you can. Ask for their help, ask for a donation, forward their newsletter, invite them to their events or even organize your own special event, or invite them to “like” Shed A Light’s Facebook page.
You’re invited to Shed A Light’s official launch event in late October! For more details, email info@ShedALight.com or “like” their Facebook page at Facebook.com/ShedALightFoundation/ for notifications.
