Community Connection: Spotlight on Every Kid Counts
Posted on April 22, 2019 by Laura LuckyWHAT THEY DO:
Every Kid Counts was founded 25 years ago as an organization providing educational, athletic and philanthropic programs to our local youth. Every program and event are designed to help young people become tomorrow’s leaders and productive members of society. Here you’ll find a recap of some of the programs Every Kid Counts coordinates:
Books to Bikes Literacy and Obesity Prevention Program – This encourages kids to enhance their reading and writing skills with an opportunity to win a brand-new bike.
Stuff the Pack Back-to-School Drive – This drive fills hundreds of backpacks with back-to-school supplies for needy families and military families that may need assistance.
Character Counts Scholarship Program – Nine 8th grade graduating students are chosen each year to receive a $250 gift card to assist in buying school supplies for high school. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of character improvement.
Athletic Programs – Because team sports help to instill discipline, desire, dedication and determination, Every Kid Counts strives to provide assistance with equipment needs, scholarships, or field refurbishing.
Philanthropic Programs – As an important component of Every Kid Counts’ mission, introducing young people to philanthropic work helps to enhance their character and give them a sense of purpose in the community.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
You can donate or volunteer. Volunteers assist in many aspects of the organization and particularly in implementing special events to underprivileged children around the state such as holiday celebrations and food and toy drives.
