Community Connection: Spotlight on MORIAH
Posted on June 10, 2019 by Laura LuckyWHAT THEY DO:
MORIAH, whose acronym stands for Motivate and Orchestrate Respectful Interpersonal Achievement and Harmony, has a mission to empower children with special needs to develop interpersonal communication, relationships and exposure to learning opportunities. Utilizing peer mentors, these special needs kids are offered social opportunities that foster empathy, acceptance and friendships with their neurotypical peers.
Some of the planned activities in which both groups of children can positively interact include summer camps, sports, and recreational outings.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
In addition to cash donations, there are many other ways to donate to MORIAH.
Vehicle Donation: Donating an auto to MORIAH can bring you a greater value on your tax return. Your tax donation value would be evaluated based on www.KBB.com while selling it on the open market may bring you 30-40% of that value.
Appreciated Stock: Donating (transferring) your appreciated stock directly to MORIAH helps you avoid capital gains tax while getting you a donation credit at 100% of the stock value.
Airline Miles: Donating airline miles, AMEX award miles or similar award programs is now considered a charitable contribution eligible to be deducted on your taxes.
Matching Grants: If you work for a large corporation or are required to give to United Way through your company, your contribution may be matched by your employer.
Always consult with your CPA or tax attorney for your specific situation before donating.
