Community Connection: The Cinderella Affair
Posted on February 19, 2019 by Laura LuckyWHAT THEY DO:
It is the goal of The Cinderella Affair, an all-volunteer project supported by East Valley Women’s League, to make prom affordable for young ladies that might not otherwise be able to attend. The program was founded in 2002 to assist young ladies in need by collecting and distributing new and gently used formalwear, shoes, jewelry and accessories.
Since 2002, over 13,000 high school junior and senior girls have been given the opportunity to make a night to remember. Items are collected all through the year, and dresses are distributed at an annual “shopping” event each April at their boutique facility that’s known as “The Cinderella Castle.” Here, girls are given a ticket for admittance and may choose their dress and accompanying items from among hundreds and hundreds of donated items – all for free.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
Donate – they’re always in need of gently used gowns and prom-type dresses, dress shoes, handbags and costume jewelry. Or, if you’d like to make a monetary donation, those funds are used to supplement their donated supply.
Volunteer – you can sign up online to volunteer to help at their annual “shopping” event in April, or to be a donation coordinator.
