Around 800 members of the nation helped to ensure complete secrecy for the U.S., an ally to South Korea. Just over 100 of these noble “code talkers” are still alive today. When the South Korean government realized that the Navajo Nation has been suffering with elevated infection rates of COVID-19, it shipped the community 10,000 masks and other PPE to honor their service from seven decades ago and to show their never-ending appreciation.
