Grab a Book While You Grab a Hike
Posted on August 12, 2019 by Laura LuckyWith the high temperatures this past summer, you may not have made it out to Pinnacle Peak Park lately to see a proud new addition for hikers and visitors to experience. The City of Scottsdale has crafted a “pop-up” book exchange in which the public is invited to take a book, leave a book or even just borrow a book to return. Similar kiosks that are spread across the country have become known as Little Libraries and are sweeping the nation. This Scottsdale program, entitled Books2Go, follows the same concept of giving, sharing and nurturing the love of reading.
In addition to housing books, the kiosk at Pinnacle Peak Park is truly a work of art in itself. Elements of its construction have been salvaged from other projects across the city and repurposed into this beautiful structure by the very talented Andrew Dorame, a City of Scottsdale employee within the Facilities Department.
The books themselves were supplied by the Scottsdale Public Library through book donations the library has received. While the titles you’ll find are varied and for all ages of readers, you’ll notice a focus on topics highlighting hiking, the outdoors, and Arizona-themed books. What a charming way to celebrate our beautiful Pinnacle Peak area and all that it offers!
