Your Home: New Looks for Your Outdoor Patios
Posted on May 13, 2019 by Laura LuckyLooking to freshen up your outdoor spaces? Whether you’re due for a complete furnishing rehaul or are simply thinking of jazzing up the décor you already have, we’ve gathered some trends and ideas to help inspire you.
Minimalism – As it’s often said, “less is more.” Sleek, streamlined silhouettes with modern finishes such as acrylic, matte black and stainless steel can lend a fresh, contemporary look for your patio. Accented with muted neutrals and sparse accessories, these minimalist spaces allow the beauty of our scenic desert landscape or sparkling city-light views to be the eye’s focus.
Accent with Lighting – Just as with inside your home, the right lighting can evoke particular moods and a sense of drama or relaxation in your outdoor spaces as well. The tried-and-true look of retro stringed-light sets can lend a festive atmosphere to your patio. LED twinkling fairy lights can be arranged in trees or in a large hurricane lamp on an accent table. Boldly designed floor lamps can be strategically placed among your vignettes. Many lighting options today can be accessed with a smartphone app that can remotely change the brightness and even the color of the lights, allowing you more options – from a quiet, romantic vibe to an energetic, party mode.
Mixing Materials – While matching patio furniture sets has been the norm for the last few decades, the interior design principle of mixing textiles, woods, metals and the such to avoid an outdated “matchy-matchy” look can apply to your outside rooms as well. Consider mixing teak with cast iron, or powder-coated aluminum with wicker. Find a unique piece to serve as an end table or contrasting yet complimentary chair styles around a dining table. Mixing materials (done properly) tends to make for a more interesting style.
